Puuc Hills, Yucatán and Campeche, MexicoFOCAL SPECIES: Creaser's Mud Turtle (Kinosternon creaseri); Yucatán Box Turtle (Terrapene yucatana)
Much of northern Yucatán is a broad, level, limestone plain. Near the southern border with Campeche and Quintana Roo, the topography changes, and a series of low hills dominate the landscape. Here, we have initiated a series of long-term studies of two Yucatán endemic turtles: the Yucatán Box Turtle (Terrapene yucatana) and the Creaser's Mud Turtle (Cryptochelys creaseri) in partnership with Millsaps College, UNAM-Morelia and UADY-Merida. |
