Wood Turtle (Glyptemys insculpta)We are an active and coordinating member of the Northeast Wood Turtle Working Group, which works for the continued survival of the North American wood turtle (Glyptemys insclupta) in the streams, fields, and forests of the northeastern United States. In 2012, with funds from the Northeast Association of Wildlife Agencies (NEAFWA), the WTC launched a two-year effort to evaluate the status of wood turtles in the region (link to Status Assessment). As part of this effort, we monitor a network of ten long-term, observatory sites in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts, spanning 400 kilometers and encompassing some of the healthiest populations known.
