Eastern Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta)

We have studied the abundance and nesting ecology of the painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) at multiple sites in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and are conducting long-term monitoring to evaluate population dynamics and response to landscape change over time. In 1998, we established a painted turtle observatory in Andover, Massachusetts, which has become one of the longest-running continuous studies of painted turtles in New England.
