Northeast Wood Turtle Working Group |
We are an active and coordinating member of the Wood Turtle Council, which works for the continued survival of the North American wood turtle (Glyptemys insclupta) in the streams, fields, and forests of the northeastern United States. In 2012, with funds from the Northeast Association of Wildlife Agencies (NEAFWA), the WTC launched a two-year effort to evaluate the status of wood turtles in the region (link to Status and Conservation of the Wood Turtle in the Northeastern United States). As part of this effort, we monitor a network of fifteen long-term, observatory sites in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, spanning 400 kilometers and encompassing several of the healthiest populations known.
