Standardized Regional Survey Protocols
As the result of cooperative regional projects funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Northeast Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and several state agencies, standardized population assessment protocols have been developed for spotted, Blanding's, and wood turtles. These protocols share four principles: 1.) A two-tiered, nested design consisting of long-term reference sites and rapid assessment sites; 2.) detailed recording of level and location of effort (spatial and temporal); 3.) centralized analysis, reporting, and publication; 4.) implementation of empirically-derived conservation goals.
